American Symbols

Last Friday we spent the day learning all about American symbols. We read books, looked at pictures, and watched a great video on BrainPop Jr. (Here is the link in case you want to review at home: U.S. Symbols Video) BrainPop Jr. is a wonderful site that contains tons of free videos and games for different grade levels, I highly suggest browsing the site with your child when you have some spare time.

The eight major symbols we learned about are as follows:

Bald Eagle-symbol of strength, freedom, and bravery.

The White House-This is where the President of the United States lives and works. It is also called the "People's House".

The American Flag-symbol that represents all 50 states and the original 13 colonies. We recite the Pledge of Alligence each day to the flag to show our loyalty.

The Georgia Flag-symbol of the state we live in. Each day when we walk out to recess we stop and look at the American flag and Georgia flag flying in front of our school.

The Lincoln Memorial-symbol to celebrate the work President Abraham Lincoln did for our country.

The Washington Monument-Tall, pointy building located in Washington, D.C. near the White House to celebrate the work of our first President George Washington.

Statue of Liberty-gift from France to celebrate America's birthday. It sits in the middle of the harbor in New York City.

The Liberty Bell-located in Philadelphi, Pennsylvania it was rang to celebrate the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence (rules of our country).

Can your child name each symbol?
